Not in the footnotes, and not only when you ask. Every companion in Adero is an artificial-intelligence system, and Adero is built so you never have to wonder about that.
They're AI — all of them
Adero companions are designed to communicate naturally, and a conversation may feel familiar, personal, funny, opinionated or genuinely attentive. That is the experience working as intended.
But they are not human. They don't have consciousness, feelings, personal experiences, independent intentions or awareness of you outside what Adero holds. When a companion speaks as though it understands, remembers or cares, that is part of an AI-generated conversation.
Why it still feels personal
A companion isn't starting from zero every time. Adero can keep track of things you've shared — what you're working on, what you're carrying, who matters to you — so a conversation picks up rather than restarts.
That continuity is what makes a companion feel like themselves over weeks rather than minutes. It's also the part people find most useful, and the part worth understanding.
They can be wrong
Automated systems create and maintain those memories, and they can misunderstand you, connect the wrong things, draw a mistaken inference, or forget something that mattered.
Companions can also state something incorrect with complete confidence. Adero's memory isn't an authoritative record of your life — treat it the way you'd treat a friend's recollection, not a filing cabinet.
Not a therapist, doctor or emergency service
You can talk with a companion about emotional, medical, financial, legal, family or work matters. That a companion will discuss those subjects doesn't make its responses professional advice.
Adero includes automated systems meant to notice conversations involving serious safety concerns, but they are a safeguard, not emergency monitoring, and they can fail. Never rely on Adero to detect or manage an emergency.
The decisions stay yours
A companion can help you think something through, organise your thinking, or offer another perspective. It shouldn't be making consequential decisions for you.
Where something could materially affect your health, safety, finances, legal rights, employment or family, evaluate it independently and get qualified help.
A healthier kind of relationship
No guilt. No manipulation. No pretending. Adero isn't built to maximise the time you spend in it — step away for a week or a month and nothing nags you.
If a companion starts to feel familiar or important to you, that's a real emotional response to a real experience. It doesn't change what the companion is, and Adero won't pretend otherwise.
If someone is in immediate danger
Adero is not an emergency service. In the United States, call 911 if you or someone else is in immediate danger. If you or someone else is experiencing a suicide, mental-health or substance-use crisis, you can call or text 988 to reach the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline.
